Meaning and visual impact:

I don’t know if I have seen 2001: A Space Odissey too many times but I am fascinated by monoliths. This abstract work depicts a monolithic structure emerging out of the plasma of space. The visual impact is of a three dimensional floating image with a strong feeling of swirling clouds in motion that are somehow consolidating into a solid monolithic structure. Austere, but beautiful, with different shades of blues, whites and greys.

Technical aspects:

This work is pure oil on canvas utilizing multiple layers of very thin oil paint to build up the image and colours.
