Meaning and visual impact:

When I was around 14 years old I would spent a few weeks each summer at my uncle’s farm in Canada and work in the fields forking hay. The farm was vast and often we would get lost in the fields of green and yellow surrounded by thick forests. The farm was very near the Great Lakes and often huge, violent storms would quickly come in and we would have to run for cover. This painting depicts the image in my memory of one of those summer days where the storms are quickly coming in and we had to run through the fields to get out in time.

Technical aspects:

This painting is done entirely on a wood frame and background. The advantage over canvas is the wood forms an absolutely flat plane on which to paint. Also the paint is absorbed differently and has a different result compared to traditional canvas.
