Meaning and visual impact:

This work is composed of two uniquely sized canvases forming a Dyptych or two art pieces that compliment each other. A perfect work for hanging in small or narrow spaces. The work is an exercise in texture. The surface appears to be almost rock like. The visual impact is appealing to most viewers because of the unusual and unique dimensions of the canvas.

Technical aspects:

The work was done on a normal stretched canvas over a wood frame of unique dimensions. The surface was prepared using a mixture of sand, glue and acrylic gesso which was then manipulated with artist tools into a heavily textured surface. Once the substrate was dry then layers of oil paint and oil glaze were applied until the desired tones were achieved.
