Meaning and visual impact:
This abstract piece depicts an image of colourful flames showing through a portal in the painting. The outer bounds of the painting depict a bleak dark image of a burned out, still smouldering landscape in a post apocalyptic world. Just the kind of imagery to cheer you up.
Technical aspects:
I have always found clouds and fire very difficult to paint technically. In the case of fire or flames it is very hard to depict the undulating motion of powerful flames in a painting. This was my attempt to recreate an image of fire fuelled by some powerful propellent. The central flame image was incorporated into a composition where the burned out aftermath is depicted in the dark background. A powerful painting viewed in person. One feels more comfortable viewing the painting with a fire extinguisher in hand or wearing anti-radiation gear .
