Continuous Whatever
Meaning and visual impact:
This work is an exercise in integrating various materials together to achieve different textures and a three dimensional feel. As opposed to a painting that normally is smooth on a flat surface, this work jumps out as if carved out of stone. The work has a wide 4 cm frame and is a bit heavy so it can easily stand upright on a mantel, for example, or otherwise be hung on a wall.
Technical aspects:
This work can be considered as half sculpture and half painting. The canvas was covered with a special material that is similar to plaster. Then the material is manipulated before it dry. Then the material is cut and sanded after the material dries hard as a rock. The material is treated so it will absorb oil paint perfectly. Then many layers of oil paint, medium, and glaze are applied until the desired effect is achieved. Natural colours and tones are used so it fits easily with most modern interior decors.
