Meaning and visual impact:

This painting is an abstract landscape of the Canadian Tundra in the early spring just after the snow has melted. The painting is a portrayal of a cold, damp, misty, muddy and half frozen landscape surrounded by leafless trees. The misty air and cloudy skies linger for what seems forever.

Technical aspects:

A lot of work was done to enhance the view of a tundra horizon and give it a three dimensional feeling while conveying a brutal, cold, damp landscape. Technically, the painting was done on canvas after the application of a special modelling concoction which I made out of acrylic paint, glue and very fine filtered sand. This modelling paste was then applied and manipulated on the canvas surface to give more depth, texture and three dimensionality to the somewhat bleak landscape.
