Meaning and visual impact:

A monumental painting that dominates any wall. Powerful visual imagery of an empty, desolate beach with a huge storm looming. The sheer scale of the work makes the imagery immersive. One gets a real feeling of impending doom as the dark storm clouds are building up to a bad ending. The beach is desolate and devoid of life much like the great expanses of the Eastern Desert in Egypt which provided the model for this image. Hundreds of kilometers of endless sand. It does not rain or storm much there but when it does - watch out.

Technical aspects:

The work is done in oil paint using brushes and impasto style painting over a brushed background. The impasto paint is heavy in areas depicting sand dunes and some storm clouds. The painting currently has a 4 cm wide wood frame mounted on the 2 cm side of the painting which is painted gold. From the front view the frame is very thin at just a few mm.
