Meaning and visual impact:

This work really borders the line between sculpture and painting. The work was meant to be a very abstract landscape expressed in both sculpture and paint. The work is on a canvas but it covered in a rock like material that has been sculpted, cut, and sanded to form a highly textural three dimensional image. On the other hand, the work is also related to the field colour genre of modern art. The combination of sculpting and painting on a canvas makes this work very interesting. A lot of visual impact for a small sized piece of art. The work can stand upright on its own or be hung as a normal canvas.

Technical aspects:

I used a plaster type material to sculpt out the basic design. After application the material is sanded and worked wth a chisel and other tools to bring it to its final form. Once the design is complete, layers of oil glaze are applied until the desired luminosity and tone is achieved.
