Libidinous Tendencies
Meaning and visual impact:
This work is all about three dimensional textures and flowing lines and channels. As much of a sculpted work as a painting. The tones are natural blacks and browns so as to not distract too much from the sculptural effects and textures. The work can be placed on a mantel or shelf and stand on its own.
Technical aspects:
The canvas was built up with a special acrylic gel concoction and then sculpted with various tools. The dried gel is absorbent to oil paint but is still subject to gravity. The deep grooves were filled with oil paint and glaze and left to dry while the ridges only received thin layers of paint to highlight the peaks of the valleys. Due to the heavy use of oil glaze the drying time was actually months long.
